THE STARTING POINT.
We had a budget of c.£10,000 to spend on getting somewhere that we could work on and use in future years for low cost holidays.
We contacted an estate agent who advertised in the Exchange & Mart offering english speaking agents. This agent was in Souillac and they booked us into a very nice little hotel and then proceeded to scream around the countryside with us grimly trying to keep up with their 'wheels'.
We saw a variety of properties but in the end chose this barn for the following reasons:-
1...It was totally untouched by any DIYer or builder.
2...It was of sound construction.
3...Its roof was fairly good and stayed entirely watertight although we have had it revitalised recently!
4...There was no dampness inside. You could dig down into the floor material and it was perfectly dry.
5...It was close to water and electricy services.
6...It was in a small hamlet, so there would be neighbours.
We sat down and made design drawings of how we wanted it to turn out and there has been little deviation from our original plan. These plans were submitted to the 'Marie' (town council) and we were given the go ahead to start our works.
